SOLD: English Pin-style Marking Gauge

SOLD: This is a classic English marking gauge. The wood is bound in brass. The beam is solid brass. And the locking mechanism is a single screw surrounded by a brass escutcheon.

There are about five lifetimes of sharpenings left on the pin (which is sharp).

When I purchased this from an English tool dealer years ago, the seller stated this was an ebony gauge. However, a few years on my bench confirmed that this was likely a beech gauge that has been stained black to look like ebony. So it’s *not* an ebony gauge.

Otherwise, this gauge is awesome. The head locks onto the beam like crazy. The thing has enormous presence in your hand. And the brass faces are nice.

But I have too many gauges.

SOLD: Cincinnati Saw Company Carcase Saw

SOLD: This is a solid 12″ carcase saw from the Cincinnati Saw Co. that has been sharpened by saw savant Daryl Weir. The saw is wicked sharp, straight and ready to work.

I acquired this saw at a Mid-West Tool Collectors meet and had it fixed up by Weir. It’s filed crosscut at 14 points per inch and is better than any sharpening job I could manage.

The blade has some stains and a little pitting in one spot — though it’s nothing that will affect how the saw cuts. The tote is likely apple. The only apology is the toe has a very small bite out of it. It’s an old blemish and perhaps has been filed to look “natural.”

This is a fine worker.

SOLD: Bridge City DG-2 With Box & Story

SOLD: Once again, here is a Bridge City tool that I owned and had completely forgotten about. It’s the DG-2 Depth Gauge, which normally sells for $129.

This very tool was featured on the cover of Jim Tolpin’s “Measure Twice, Cut Once” (Revised Edition). Our book editor had purchased the tool to use in the cover shoot (a letter to that effect is included with the tool).

Then the tool sat in our shop for years until the company sold it in a surplus sale. I bought the sucker, with its box and instructions. I put it in my tool box about 10 years ago and forgot about it.

It has some blemishes. The brass has some tarnish. But this tool has never been used. So it should clean up easily and nicely.

SOLD: Veritas Spokeshave Kit Unopened

SOLD This is from the list of projects I want to get around to someday (but likely will not). This is a new, unopened Veritas Large Spokeshave Kit (2-3/8″ iron) that I purchased when the kits first came out.

The only apology is that the manual is water-stained. All the metal components are still sealed up and perfect.

If you want to take this burden off my back, I’d appreciate it.

SOLD: Kakuri Chamfer Plane

SOLD I bought this tool ages ago from Japan Woodworker. This little sucker launched my love affair with all things chamfered. The tool is super basic but still works remarkably well.

The plane has a fence that can be removed with two screws. Attach the fence one way and it will do 45° chamfers. Turn the fence around and it will do 60° chamfers. Remove the fence and you have a decent block plane.

The iron needs to be honed.

I totally forgot I even owned this little guy. But I need the space.
