If you live near North Carolina and need a tool chest, here is a post you should read. A friend of mine died earlier this year, and he left behind his Anarchist’s Tool Chest he built in a class with me and Roy Underhill. The exterior of the poplar chest is almost complete and was built entirely by hand. All it needs is its top skirting boards attached to the case. My friend modified the lid (he always was a contrarian) so it had two central panels instead of one. All the hard work is done. All you have to do is fit out the inside with tills and hardware. And paint it. The family would love for this to go to a woodworker instead of a resale shop. So if you would like a head start on this project, here’s a great opportunity. The chest is located outside Durham, N.C. The family would be grateful if it could be picked up instead of being shipped. Price: $600.

Beautiful work. Looks nicer than my first chest! Steal for that price
That makes me want to drive from Texas. Surely a NC woodworker will step up.
Blessings to the family.
I like the split top!
(don’t like the commute, sadly)
condolences. Reminds me that maybe for once, I should actually get around to one of the perpetual new years resolutions about making a list of tools and values 🙁
hope the tool chest shell can go to a aspiring/up and coming woodworker.
If I was in pick-up range… Definitely a bargain at that price
Drat! I was in the area only a week ago. Hope it finds a good home.
If only this was in Australia! I’d hate to think what it would cost to get it shipped here. More than I could probably afford. 🙁
