Here’s another item that you might have seen coming. When we started selling pencils of our own design, we investigated making a simple pencil sharpener. We immediately gave up when we used the Mobius+Ruppert “Grenade” 602 pencil sharpener. Note that some sites call this the “double round” sharpener.
These German-made, inexpensive (less than $10) and hard-working pencil sharpeners are all you could ever want. The Grenade has a brass body and offers two holes. One for standard-diameter pencils, and a second that fits the oversized pencils that we make.
The Grenade comes sharp. And the company offers replaceable blades (10 for about $8), so this little beauty never needs to go in the trash.
Mobius+Ruppert make a number of pencil sharpeners. We have a few of them, and they are great. But for a single sharpener that will handle almost all of your pencils, the 602 Grenade is the one to get.

Got these after previous post. Quality product, like them a lot
Hah! For once, and probably the only time, you are recommending something I already found. I made a little wooden holder for mine, but still mangaged to keep misplacing it. So I drilled a hole through it so I could tie it to the holder with a bit of string.
Why link to dickblick for the sharpener when they don’t list the replacement blades? Curious.
Checked on the Blick site. Sharpener is $8.05. Shipping to Houston is $7.95
I picked up one a couple months back when you mentioned it in the blog. I love it way better than anything else I have found.
I’ve had one of those for many years, always at hand.
It will be with me when I’m buried or cremated.
I’ve had this sharpener for a few years and am always surprised at how good it is. Got it from the local art supply shop for like $6. Blades are still really sharp.
The linked M+R sharpener is the “Bullet”/”Grenade” sharpener…

but that model is a single standard size pencil sharpener, not the 2 hole version you mention in the post… the pictured sharpener is the M+R “Discos”/”round, double hole”…

Had one of these at a chair shop I worked at, great at sharpening pencils but used it mostly to chamfer the top of spindle if I forgot to do it before I glued it in to the seat
Be advised that one of the reviews(in the company web site) reports the presence of lead in brass products such as these pencil sharpeners.
Lead is frequently found in brass that is not used in water pipes. So I wouldn’t put the pencil sharpener in your mouth or in a glass of drinking water.
But the lead in the pencils is perfectly fine! Didn’t see any cancer warnings on the pencils they sell.
there is no lead in “lead” pencils… it is graphite or a composite with graphite.
