Our warehouse has begun shipping out copies of “The Anarchist’s Design Book: Expanded Edition.” If you placed a pre-publication order, you will be notified when the book goes out. There were a lot of pre-publication orders, so it might take them a few days. (So don’t panic if you haven’t been notified.)
I received my copies today and am relieved. The bookmark ribbon came out nicely and the cover printing (which our pre-press people were nervous about) looks perfect.
Several of you have asked if we can include the bookmark ribbon in all our books. The answer is: Maybe. This is an experiment to see how we like it and to see if it’s worth the added expense and delay in printing. We had to send the book blocks out to a third party to install the ribbon, which added significant time to the whole process.
You can read all about the book, what’s new and what it’s about here.
If you own the first edition and would like to download a free pdf of the new edition, go here for simple instructions.
If you are not an anarchist and would like to complain about my deeply held personal beliefs, please click here.
And if you bought the book, thank you. Now I don’t have to get a job at the Big Boy down the street.

Any idea when this will be available at the Lee Valley ? Looking forward to getting a copy . Thanks for putting this updated version together
Lee Valley keeps its own schedule. We’ll ship it to them ASAP, but they juggle a lot of products and schedules.
Love the black on black, the red ribbon and your ongoing quest. Thank you.
Hello, Welcome to Big Boy!
Wood you like curly or straight shavings on your fries?
(See what i did there?)
All jokes aside, the book looks amazing! And i am waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail.
I have kind of mixed feelings on building the tool chest in ATC or the boarded one in this book. I like the idea of building skills through the ATC chest build, but this bool kind of shows that those skills are somewhat superfluous. Decisions decisions.
(PS i recently saw on Craigslist a boarded tool chest that the current owner believes was built by an original German settler somewhere in Ohio, and from looking at its believable but still in pretty good shape)
The book looks fantastic! Very classy. The ribbon is a nice touch for this type of book, but for others, maybe just a regular bookmark would be adequate if you feel inclined to add something?
Looking forward to buying a copy at my local LV.
Add your own ribbon! Take a piece of card stock, cut it the width of the spine, glue you favorite color ribbon to it, after the glue drys place the card stock between the cover and the spine.
Are you serious? Guess I’ll make about a dozen of these. Thank you.
Wow, i was wondering how this would work, but just looked at my copy of ATC and never noticed that little gap there before! I use these all the time on my Bullet journal.
Congrats Chris (and the entire LAP team). The, uh, contracted (?) edition of this book was a real jumping-off-point for me from reading about woodworking on the internet and trying some simple things to moving up in complexity and ultimately discovering chairmaking, which I may never be good at but I sure love doing!
Greatly appreciate that you’ve setup a way for owners of the original to get a free PDF of the added chapters. Some people might call you crazy, but I think it’s good business!
Got mine in the mail today!!! It’s really amazing!
Initial thoughts on the ribbon are that while it’s a cool addition to the book overall, I think that some special editions might deserve this (like this expanded edition), while others I’d rather not wait for that feature. Having said that, if it was in stock, and already on there for a book I was interested in, all the better. Good job on a fantastic book!
Thanks for the feedback!
It arrived, Huzzah! The ribbon is very nice. I’ve been previewing the digital version but it’s so much nicer to have something in my hands (easier, too). Thanks!
Love the whole look of this book. Ordering now…
Do you have any estimate on how long before all the Dec. preorders of ADB will be shipped out to customers? I’m just looking for a general idea: a couple of weeks, month? I realize LAP isn’t Amazon with same-day 2-hour delivery, but I don’t know how far the other way normal book packing & shipping may reasonably take. Thanks.
They all shipped out. Please contact help@lostartpress.com and they will straighten it out.
I emailed ‘help’ on Monday, Feb 2nd; the response was “It looks like yours is going out today or tomorrow”. It didn’t ship. I’ll email them again and see if I get a different response. Thanks.
