Storefront Open This Saturday (Without Me)

Brendan helps install original copperplate engravings from “The Anarchist’s Design” book in our bench room.

Megan Fitzpatrick and Brendan Gaffney will staff the Lost Art Press storefront this Saturday so I can have a weekend with my wife (it’s our 25th anniversary).

There have been lots of changes at the storefront, 837 Willard St. in Covington, Ky., since last month. The Electric Horse Garage will be up and running (the new roof goes on starting Tuesday). Plus, we are setting up the bench room for classes that Brendan, Megan and Will Myers will be teaching there this year.

We now have nine (!) different workbenches at the storefront for you to examine.

  • My French oak Roubo bench
  • The Holtzapffel workbench
  • A Nicholson bench with angled legs
  • Megan Fitzpatrick’s “Glue-bo” bench made with laminated beams
  • A nice commercial Ulmia
  • A cherry and cottonwood Roubo bench
  • The Loffelholz 1505 workbench
  • The Saalburg Roman bench
  • The Herculaneum eight-legged bench

So if you are in the market for a workbench design, our storefront might be a good place to investigate.

As per usual, we will be selling our full line of Lost Art Press books, plus T-shirts. We are, however, quite low on blemished books right now.

The storefront is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month. Directions and a map are here. Our next open day will be Feb. 10 (I’ll be there!).

    Congrats on the anniversary!

Wouldn’t it be great to do a new video tour of the HQ?!

    • Perhaps we will when the ground floor is complete. I’ve resisted this because things change so quickly as I improve the place. I keep thinking: I’ll do that after I install the new door. After the drywall gets fixed. After I get the fixtures sorted. After the fence gets replaced and stained…..

Congratulations on your 25 years! I wish I could be there as I am very excited about Mary May´s new book but i guess i‘ll have to wait until Dictum stocks it…. any idea if they have anything planned? Thanks and best regards from Munich,

Rudy, you could get it from Classic Hand Tools, it’s in stock there. I‘ve ordered from them before, it’s easy and fast, shipping ain’t expensive. My go to shop for everything you can’t get over here!

It all looks and sounds great. Good people, a beautiful space, and (oh dear, that Oxford comma) BENCHES GALORE.

  5. Congratulations on 25 years together! You deserve a weekend off!
When I went to Lee Nielson, I’d told my wife “Let’s go up the coast to Bar Harbor instead of the highway the whole way”, to ehich she replied “Ok, Where do you want to stop?” (She let me anyway). Now I just need to find something near Covington she would like and then bring up “By the way… Can we stop at Lost Art Press while we’re near there?”. She’ll see right thru it I suppose…

Congratulations on reaching your 25th wedding anniversary. With the divorce rate in this country somewhere around 50%, that is quite an accomplishment. I hope that you have many more. All the best.

25 years is something special, Enjoy. And hopefully 25 more.

  8. davidmaydole says:

Are T-shirts only available on the storefront right now? Any idea when they might be available on-line?

    • We have been having trouble with the fulfillment service for T-shirts. So until they get their act together, shirts are available only at the storefront I’m afraid.

    Happy anniversary.
    How about the Milkmans bench?
That one should be able to be fitted in you shop as well 🙂
