Will the Nudity Ever End?

Mike Siemsen’s “The Naked Woodworker” has inspired thousands of new woodworkers to get off their duffs, buy a basic set of tools and get down to business building sawbenches and a dang-straight workbench.

What has been surprising for us at Lost Art Press is how the DVD continues to sell and pick up new woodworkers. When we went to Minnesota two years ago to film the DVD we had a great time hunting for rust and building stuff with Mike, but we didn’t expect the response to his DVD to be this strong today.

We think it has a lot to do with his wacky van. But that’s another story for another round of beers.

Check out these two recent blog entries on “The Naked Woodworker:”

Bill “Woodnerd” Traynor writes about how the DVD inspired his first workbench and “birthed a new woodworker.” No foolin’. Check it out here.

And even if you are a more experienced woodworker, check out how the DVD inspired Greg Merritt to build the sawbenches and bench featured in the DVD. Good stuff. It’s here.

We hope to get Mike to do another video on some upgrades he’s made to his bench that he was showing off at Woodworking in America. So stay tuned.

Photo caption: The Naked Woodworker shows off his little woody.
    (That’s the PG’est version I could muster.)

  2. Thanks for the mention! I can’t stress enough how great The Naked Woodworker was for getting me started. Granted it took me about a year to really get moving, it was time well spent. I’m hoping I can keep the momentum rolling. Oh, and tell Mike that if he ever does a part 2, I’ll be sure to buy it.

I’m in for another DVD. If my memory serves me correctly, I thought Mike had added a scissors leg vise to one of the benches on display at Handworks last spring. I’d be up for seeing that.

When I saw the headline I was afraid it was another Carl Bilderback story.

You should warn a person before sending this much traffic their way. LOL. 😉

Can’t say enough good things about the “Naked Woodworker” videos and Mike’s presenting/teaching style. We need more videos from him for sure.

Thanks for the mention. It is very much appreciated Chris.

Just wanted to reiterate what an great educational resource was provided by Mike Siemsen and Lost Art Press through the Naked Woodworker dvd. Mike’s follow-up YouTube video on work-holding with the bench is an important and useful supplement to the dvd. I have been learning hand tool woodworking for two years and at the beginning of this year I built the sawbenches and workbench presented in the Naked Woodworker. The instruction provided by Mike, the process of building the bench, and now having a “real” workbench in the shop has really elevated my ability to learn the craft.
