Thankfully, things have calmed around here since the madness of last week’s multi-day move of inventory from storage to Anthe. With all books now on site we’ve been able to focus our energy towards the vision for Anthe (as well as packing and shipping orders, of course). Gabe, Mark and I began our day with scrapers and wire brushes, removing layer after layer of loose paint from the bricks in the front room so that we can paint what will eventually become a retail space for LAP. This project has a long way to go, but with the front room of Anthe facing a main avenue here in Covington, this space has potential.

Every post about your new building, shop, class, town…whatever it is, all I can think is, “I’m going to go there someday…”
Any Lost Art Press storefront cannot be complete without at least one AWB style Roubo… I’m hoping there are plans to chronicle building one?!? Potential video fodder… Unlikely y’all have squirreled away any significant timbers from the renovation to have old in-house material to build from, but Chris has never struggled to find good material when needed. Look forward to seeing it one day!
….maybe lead-based paint in the ol’ Anthe building, necessitating the use of a respirator with P100 filters? …
Almost certainly lead based and often a remarkably high percentage of it in the older paints. I have done quite a bit of exactly this, use a poultice like peel away or if you must scrape ppe up and get effectively hooked up to a hepa vacuum, on the scraper itself preferably. I have a recipe for a self made poultice like peel away if you want to save 90% of what that stuff costs let me know.
I generally really hate “well actually” comments but in this case it’s serious, people have got acute lead poisoning this way and the lower level effects are no fun either, but much harder to spot. I spent a decade as a construction site safety manager and am qualified in this.
Thanks for the updates on the building. Vicariously loving the restoration!
Did something change with blog settings? Had to click through the email to read the whole article.
We’re having massive DNS problems – some people aren’t getting blog notifications at all! We’re working on it.
Thanks; good to know I didn’t make a PEBKAC error… nor did you 🙂
Sorry for your DNS troubles.
I can picture a dozen or so stick chairs, all different, for people to try and see what they like best before building. All in the front windows for people to see. I’m guessing people would be more interested in the chairs until they find out the books will tell them how.
It’s amazing to see the progress of the Anthe building since Lost Art Press (Chris) took possession of it. I started following Chris in 1996 or 97, can’t remember exactly lol, but I have learned so much from Chris and the other folks in his circle (Megan, Roy, Charles and so forth) that teach and write books. It has been amazing to see where he started and where he is now. I am looking forward to seeing Lost Art Press to expand to greatness and I will get to the Anthe building someday soon. I love reading the post, so don’t stop. Have a awesome weekend all.
Thanks for the update. It’s always nice to see these little updates.
