House & Garden magazine in the U.K. has a nice feature on vernacular stick chairs and cricket tables in its current issue. You can read the article here.
Tim Bowen of Tim Bowen Antiques is quoted throughout. Tim and Betsan Bowen authored “The Welsh Stick Chair,” a lovely book that we stock. (It is the only non-Lost Art Press title in our store.) We are awaiting stock on this book from its third printing.
If you are interested in learning more about vernacular pieces, we have you covered. Check out:

Thanks for the heads-up on the article. For those that don’t have the Bowen’s book, it’s definitely worth grabbing when it’s back in stock.
That lowback has got character in spades. That chairmaker must have walked the woods for hours just to find the perfect branch for the backrest. What really strikes me is the oblong tenons for the legs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
Cheers Chris, this was a great read. For those of us who have exhausted all of the LAP fodder on stick /vernacular chairs from the Europe/UK region, can you recommend any additional older or more uncommon manuscripts (either in print or online) for some deeper research on this furniture (short of traveling across the pond to see them in person)? I have had good luck searching the online auction sites like 1st Dibs and the like but would love to fine more examples to critique, dissect, and appreciate.
