When we started fundraising last year to help repair the Anthe Building (the location of our warehouse in downtown Covington), we thought that surely, we would be ready to show it to the public in early 2024.
Unfortunately, old buildings don’t care about our plans.
Right now the back wall is being rebuilt and mortared. The roof needs its new skylight. And the material lift, which moves books from floor to floor, is being repaired. As a result, all our books and tools are crowded into the first floor, plus the planned storefront and the second floor. Until we can get the material lift functioning, there is little room for employees to move.
So as soon as we get the place functioning and safe for the public, we will notify everyone who donated about the Opening Day. Right now, we are shooting – with confidence – for June.
Even though I know the building is laughing at us right now (and leaking gas, which plumbers are fixing this minute).
Thanks for your patience!

We all have that problem some days.
Safety first! Or is that safety last? I can never remember. But …thanks for fixing the gas leak before we get there.
Safety third!!
Why would Mark’s gas require a plumber to fix him?
Yes, old building have ways to let you know you are just a know nothing newcomer at everyturn. Many years ago I was helping a friend reno an old townhouse one Capitol Hill in DC. Had plumbers there to install a new gas furnace. Discovered that the lines for the gas lights from the 1840s were still live, just caped at the ends. Gas was leaking into the wall voids.
Just plain “wow”
YIKES!
Welcome to commercial real estate! If you are not more than 30% over the total budget, and you open in less than twice the original timeframe, you are one of the best developers in America!
Material lift, I like it. Probably can lift an elephant but not quite up to current elevator code.
As noted by another commenter, you’ve had it relatively easy. Be glad you aren’t in earthquake country and needed seismic upgrades! (At least I assume your codes aren’t that strict – even though the largest quakes in the USA were in Missouri! – look up New Madrid Seismic Zone in Widkipedia for more info). (on second thought, you don’t need more to worry about; just be sure all the shelving is secured well!)
I sometimes leak a little gas when I laugh as well. I can sympathize.
When it’s safely ready will be the right time, good things are worth the wait.
Looking forward to the party and warm weather!
What about the ghosts!? Gotta be some ghouls and goblins lurking about in a place that old. Gotta make sure you salt the windows and doors to keep em all out….
If you can afford the time, would love to see some more Anthe Building work updates!
Look at the bright side, there a way worse things that could have leaked than gas!
