All our videos are 50 percent off until midnight on Saturday, Dec. 2. Get into chairmaking, learn to turn or build a massive Roubo workbench. We do everything to keep our videos tightly edited, entertaining and shot from a woodworker’s perspective (no romantic pans of tool walls – promise).
For this week, you can sample our video work for half off.
You might have noticed we are slowly edging more into making videos (books will always be our first love). For our video plans for next year, we need to upgrade our sound and video equipment. Plus buy professional editing software.
To help fund that, we decided to put our existing videos on sale.
All our videos can be downloaded to any device or streamed from our site. There’s no digital rights management (DRM) for you to endure. The videos don’t need passwords or keys to open.
So what’s on the video release calendar for next year?
- Build a Swedish Tool Chest with Whitney Miller
- Build the Anarchist’s Workbench with me
- Build the Hobbit-y Chair (need a better name)
And maybe one more.
— Christopher Schwarz
Anarchist Workbench video? Take my money.
Build a Swedish Tool Chest with Whitney Miller? I loved her work on Henry Boyd, but I had no idea she was a woodworker. Is this recent, or was I missing something?
I saw on the blog she did a chair class I think. Thrilled to see this video! Glad she gets the spotlight and have been itching to build that chest myself.
Personally I don’t think the name “hobbity chair” can be improved upon. But in the film you need a running joke of stopping for a snack after every operation, and finish by smoking an enormous pipe.
I think “Hobbit-y Chair” is perfect. I really don’t believe you need to change title. I knew exactly which chair you were referencing.
The fact that there’s now a Gibson chair in my house is proof that the Gibson chair video works.
If “Hobbit-Chair” doesn’t work for you, perhaps “Shire Chair” or “Halfling Chair.”
Ooo, I like “Halfling Chair”!
How about ‘Build Bilbo’s chair’ or ‘Build the Bag End Chair’? I also would build on Gene’s idea and call it a ‘Shire Stick Chair’.
Just a comment on the video production upgrades, you might not need to buy professional editing software. Black Magic daVinci Resolve is available for free, and it very much is a professional tool.
That said, content is still the most important thing.
Seconded. A license for the Studio (i.e. ”Pro”) version is free with many of their devices, or $295 or so by itself in perpetuity, no yearly subscription costs. But the free version is almost certainly way more than enough for LAP productions. Unless a third party requires you use Premiere Pro or something, Resolve is pretty much a no-brainer these days for anyone who isn’t beholden to an existing AV software stack.
Any chance of ” Dutch Tool Chest ” video with Meighan ?
Maybe after she finishes the book.
There Fitz, I said it out loud.
haha
Maybe in 2025
I may be in the minority but I would love a campaign chest video.
Same here. Going from a tool chest to a campaign chest seems natural, but there is a lot to learn. The book is great, but I enjoy the videos immensely.
I thought, “hey, finally something I can use the “shop cash” that silly app keeps telling me is going to expire” …
Then the 2 videos I was invited in weren’t listed in the LAP shop store.
Any chance of adding “Build Your Tool Chest Interior” and “Roubo Workbench: By Hand & Power Video” or is there a margin or other limiting factor that prevents it?
Weird. All the videos are 50 percent off. Try this link:

If you don’t see them on sale, dump you browser’s cache. If that doesn’t work, help@lostartpress.com can help.
Very minor but something you probably want to address. I believe you recently migrated your store to a new service. In the process the store appears to have lost the favicon. The implication is that when people are looking at your site instead of seeing an LAP logo (like we do here on the blog) we do not see such a logo and instead see some kind of generic blank spot or browser logo.
Fixed thanks!
