Dearborn Denim Carpenters Jeans
I’m always looking for USA-made jeans that aren’t for the mustache-and-too-tall-bicycle set. This year I tried a pair of Chicago-made Dearborn Denim jeans. The denim is 10 ounce, so it’s not terribly heavy. The cut is roomy so you can move. And the pockets and loop are handy.
For $79 – not bad.
My biggest concern with them is – as always – the front pockets. I blow mine out after a year of use and have to get them repaired. These have pockets that are made of lightweight material, so it’s only a matter of time.
But I am hard on clothes. You might not have abrasive leg hair like mine.
Thanks for making my day with the last sentence. 😉
I’d feel better if there was a “— Christopher Schwarz” at the end though.
Thanks for the heads up on the jeans. I am always looking for pants that have a cell phone pocket, like Dearborn Denim’s relaxed fit 6 pocket has. How has your experience been with ordering, shipping and customer service?
Nice. I have another Jeans manufacturer just an hour up the road from me here in Oklahoma – https://www.round-house.com/ I’ve been buying theirs for the past decade or so. Very hard-wearing, 14-oz denim, and they offer the various leg pocket styles and overall, also.
Round-house are my favorite for heavy and cruddy work. Very sturdy and well made.
Have you tried Duluth Trading? Not sure where their clothes are made, but they are well made and last a long time, Just a suggestion.
I’ll check out Duluth and Round House, thx! I went ahead and ordered a pair of jeans from Deaerborn, but sadly I forgot to use my Black Friday 20% discount code at checkout :-O
Also check out Origin. Made in the USA and very durable. They also make nice hoodies and boots.
I’ve been a Dearborn customer for awhile. They aren’t the most durable, but they probably are the most comfortable and reasonably priced for a made in the USA jean.
I like the Dearborn a lot. Aside from the lightweight pockets, I found pockets to be shallow. Not great for very tall phones. But I still like them.
I’m always happy to hear about USA made items.
My father worked in heavy construction most of his life and front pockets were always a problem until my mother started making pocket inserts of old jeans and just sewed them in right away before giving the pants to my father. There was the one time she got him some twill work pants and the first day he wore them saw a thread sticking out near one knee on the inseam – yep, it unsewed the whole seam along the inseam and he stapled the pants back together and never wore another pair of twill work pants again.
Nice to have the above options for durable jeans. Thanks.
Origin makes good jeans too – their “Factory” jean style is similar to the above – and the pockets are full denim material too, no cloth so they’re way more durable.
Don’t worry, you are not the only one. After my keys run down my leg and hit the floor two or three times in a row, then I fix the damn pocket.
Another US made jeans option is Prison Blues (https://www.prisonblues.net/). This brand, which as the name implies, are made in a medium security prison, may not sit well with some, or sit very well with others, depending on how you feel about incarcerated people making consumer goods. The prisoners “wage” is at the local prevailing rate, but the state of Oregon (the prison is locaed in Pendleton) takes 80% in taxes, child support, victim restitution and funds for the cost of incarcerating an inmate. Nevertheless it is considered a very desirable job for the incarcerated there.
I am not trying to start a discussion on whether this is an appropriate use of incarcerated people’s labor, but just wanted to mention it as a possibility. Full disclosure: I have not purchased any of these jeans, but have been considering doing so. I am now considering some of the other brands mentioned in this post and in the comments. If anyone has tried them I’d like to hear about them.
Have you tried Roundhouse jeans. Pockets are fine loop works well, 14 ounce and roomy. Made in USA and about $60.00 Frank Shore
Holy Crap! They sell them in a 33” waist 36” length.
You have snagged them a new customer
