Starting now, when you buy one of my seven titles from the Lost Art Press website, it will be signed by me. We’re able to do this now that our fulfillment operations are here in Covington, Kentucky. We hope to make this offer permanent, but until we figure out how much work it will require, we are committing only until the end of the year.
Offering signed copies is one of the many things we have been eager to bring back now that we are running our fulfillment operations here.
Here are the seven titles that will be signed:
“The Stick Chair Book: Revised Edition”
“Sharpen This”
“Ingenious Mechanicks”
“The Anarchist’s Workbench”
“The Anarchist’s Design Book”
“The Anarchist’s Tool Chest”
“Campaign Furniture”
I apologize that we will not be able to personalize these books or offer haikus, drawings of marsupials or signatures in blood. Signing all my books is already a time-consuming task, and adding another layer of complexity isn’t possible.
We also cannot offer signed books to our wholesale or overseas customers. Offering signed copies is one of the few advantages we have in the marketplace, and we have decided to reserve it for books we sell at retail.
But….
What if you just bought a book and are now disappointed it’s not signed? We can mail you a signed signature plate if you send us a Self-addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE).
Here’s what you do: Write your address on an envelope and put a stamp on it. Put that envelope in a second envelope and mail it to:

We are not going to sell signature bookplates. We did that years ago, and the internet called me a narcissist (it’s not the worst thing I’ve been called, but still…). If you are an international customer, you can still get a signature bookplate, but you’ll need to have a USPS Global Forever Stamp on it. Yes, I know that’s a pain. But this is the best we can do. Yes, some of you will try to strong-arm Fitz into doing it for you, but she says she’ll resist.

Sorry, Chris,
Not offering signatures in blood is a deal-breaker.
You think I’m joking. But when I was in Australia I nicked myself during a class and the students lined up to have me sign their books in blood.
We don’t get out much and make the most of things when we can in Oz
Did you ever see the Big Bang Theory where Sheldon’s girlfriend got him a cloth napkin that Leonard Nemoy had used?
Lol, he had DNA to make a Spock clone !!!
Isn’t that Roy’s thing? 😉
You read my mind. I just ordered the Design Book maybe an hour before this posted and I was thinking, “It sure would be nice to have a signed copy. I bet if I asked nicely, Chris would sign one”. But I didn’t see a place for a message. Then I see this. I might be having a good week!
And it arrived! Signed with a ribbon too! Just paging through and I think this may be the best one yet. Thank you Chris, Megan, and LAP! Sorry, no unboxing video!
I have a couple of your signed cards from when you put them in the books I bought. its also about time to start making them Christmas spatulas.
What, the tools don’t get any love? Pfft.
Totally fake snark. 🙂 Not even sure how that would work with all the hands involved in the making process.
I would send you all those titles with return postage if you would be willing to sign them.
Perhaps one day in the not too distant future Fitz will be able to offer her Dutch Tool Chest book with her signature. 😉
I would buy one.
me too
Me too!
Ditto
I’m keeping a list of the people who ask 😉
Just to be clear: a global forever stamp, not a normal forever stamp?
For international customers, a Global Forever stamp makes sure their signature plate will arrive.
U.S. customers can put a regular first-class stamp on their SASE. I hope this makes sense.
Thanks, makes sense, I didn’t parse correctly. (Hm, are International Reply Coupons still a thing, he asked, adding even more complication?)
That’s the sort of thing I’m supposed to resist…’cause it would necessitate a visit to the post office. But I’d probably do it…just don’t tell Chris.
i got my copy of ATC signed in person. that was a good day!
What is a signed signature plate? I have ATC and ADB, but i do still need to get the stick chair book. Will there be space above the signature where i can forge a marsupial drawing?
It is basically a fancy sticker. We have them printed via letterpress and then I sign them. Then you stick them in the book.
My order of “With All the Precision Possible” shipped this morning. What do you suppose my chances are Fitz can produce a signature bookplate from Mr Roubo if I soft-arm her?
I got my AWB book signed literally on the eponymous AWB. Pretty fun. Thanks for re-offering this even just for a bit!
Signing in blood means either you’re taking your craft too seriously, or you’ve been studying the wrong craft.
Another superb idea from LAP!. Now working on how to get a U.S. stamp in the Great White North.
I also often wondered if I could ever get my copy of “Calvin Cobb” signed….but oh! the logistics!
For some reason this made me think of Jurassic Park and some sort of future Chris Schwarz monster chasing Jeff Goldblum through a deserted island.
On the subject of signed trophy-copies…….. about 30 odd years ago I bought a very early copy of John Brown’s ‘Welsh Stick’ book as a result of (and despite) reading a neutrally/favourable review by another chair-maker.
The original reviewer – good as he was at his own work – missed the point entirely and the rest is history.
It was not until some years later that I found that the author had discretely signed it at the bottom corner of an inside page.
Hi Chris,
This triggered an idea, sort of weird. How about LAP come out with woodworking trading cards? You could start with the LAP authors and then branch out from there. I’ll let you debate if you are to include some bubble gum in the package.
Sincerely,
Joe
