We get a lot of requests to reprint our letterpress “By Hammer & Hand” poster, and now I am pleased to report that the project is in the works.
Brian Stuparyk, the artist of the poster, has agreed to a second run (he will receive a royalty on each one sold, FYI). The poster will be the same size as the original 13” x 19”. It will be printed via letterpress in two colors on nice paper here in the US. Price will be about $25 to $27.
In an effort to make sure we order enough (but not too many), I have a tiny favor to ask. If you plan on ordering one, could you please “like” this post? You just have to click the star at the bottom of the post. You don’t have to leave a comment. Just click “like.” Here is what the “Like” button looks like. (Don’t click the image.)
We are trying like heck to get the poster out before Christmas. I have been working nights cleaning up the plates. But no promises.

P.S. I’m afraid we will not be selling these through our retailers. Nor are we able to ship internationally. If you are overseas, we recommend you try a mail forwarding service. More here.
100 percent will order one. I have regretted not ordering one. Very excite. Thank you.
I definitely want one!
The “like” button didn’t respond, but I would like one of the posters!
Scroll to the bottom of the article. There is a row of buttons with the like button on far left. The one you probably tried is just a picture, not the actual button.
I’ll be watching my emails like a hawk
Yes, very timely. Have an Empire dresser with machine cut square nails. Previously was putting the age to late 1800’s, though now could be “1st run” versus “Revival”.
Not sure the”Like” worked but I definitely would like to have one!
Stoked!
Certainly would like one.
Have you been having “posters are a good idea” flashbacks?😁
Awesome poster , I’m in on at least 2
I definitely want one and would happily prepay or make a deposit or something like that.
Hi Chris, wondering if for those of us who are overseas (I’m UK) you might consider either making a pdf download available or supplying some to Classic Hand Tools
Thanks
I have a low-hanging pipe in my shop. I cracked my skull on it yesterday, and drew a fair amount of blood. This is easily the 30th time I’ve done this. You’d think I’d learn. If I ever lose most of my hair and shave my head, I’m afraid of all the scars that will be there.
Anyway, it reminds me of you printing posters. But I’ll buy one.
Looking forward, rather, to getting the chance to get one of these! Not that I’ve lost any sleep over the matter, but I’ve always found it a pity (within proportion) not to have been aware of the original release at the time of said original release, so was delighted to read that you have managed to swing a second edition!
Are you planning on the same two colours for the two-colour print, or will you go for a different set?
Cheers,
Mattias
A very fine poster.
I have always understood that “For by Hammer and Hand all arts do stand.” refers to the blacksmith trade.
Yes. And it was used as the motto for general mechanics societies. See Hummel’s book for details.
I do not know the book. Please provide a reference.
Consider:
By Hammer & Hand, All Arts Do Stand “ came to be.
The worshipful company of Blacksmiths – was a guild began in London in 1299; and was chartered to the City of London in 1571. The guild included gunsmiths and clockmakers at that time. In 1610, a coat of arms was granted for the Blacksmiths; whose motto was ‘By Hammer and Hand, All Arts Do Stand.
First President Robert Boyd adopted the motto in 1785 for the then nascent General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen of the City of New York. Centuries later, the motto still holds.
I like it.
I first saw that saying while taking classes at the General Society for Mechanics and Tradesmen in New York City.
Yo LAP! I may be misremembering but didn’t you ask one of us (the readers) to smack you up-side-the-head the next time you had the idea to make another poster?. Thwack!!
Yep, this^^
My original run poster got lost in my last move and I’ve been hoping it would miraculously appear in some as yet unopened box. This seems a surer way of getting it back up in my shop.
I like this, but, probably my system problem, the ‘like’ link isn’t working. Please count me in on this. Always regretted missing the first opportunity.
I love the poster and wish I could get one, sadly I won’t be able to.
During my research into my late spouse’s family there were some who manufactured nails and another who manufactured brooms and quite a few who were carpenters. My father and his father were carpenters.
I like I’ll but one
I’ll take one!
I’ll probably order two, one for my classroom and one for my home workshop!
I use this poster’s information every single day in the shop. It’s by the bench and I literally hold nails up to the poster to figure out what size I should use.
Looking forward to purchase two posters.
Will buy. Won’t sign up for WordPress.
Like- button does not work
This is me, pressing the like button and not making any comments!
I would love to have one Chris And Megan.
I regret not getting one first time around…count me in!
Will purchase at least one.
I’m in for one!
Most certainly want!!!, I hope you won’t have an issue as it maybe more closer to mid December until I can purchase…
Will buy. No wordpress.
Will it be available in velvet or for black light?
I’d love one but the like button didn’t work for me!
I would like one!
i,m in for 1
The like button wants me to log into the blogging software and i don’t have/want an account but call this a “like”
Count me in for two!
Hey, what about the possibility of listing the posters in apparel, with the notifications option? That could be a good way to get a better idea of how many to order, and also let us know when they’re in.
