In an effort to become a more competent/normal/slightly-more-successful company, we are trying an experiment. For the next couple months we are offering free shipping on all orders more than $100.
If the math works out and we don’t lose our shirts (like selling posters), then we will make this free shipping permanent. If we start to bleed money, we will discontinue it.
There are no “free shipping” codes to learn or type in. It’s simple. Buy more than $100 worth of stuff, and the shipping will be set to free, automatically.
This obviously means that things such as our Crucible Holdfast, Dividers and Sliding Bevel now ship for free. Plus any combination of books, tools and apparel.
Let’s hope this works for everyone.

Honestly, while I appreciate this I really hope you don’t go overboard. We want you – as a business – to survive and thrive. You shouldn’t feel like you need to keep up with Amazon. Shipping costs money. It isn’t free for anyone. We trust you negotiate the best rates possible and don’t chisel us. We don’t want to see you get chiseled. That being said, if you’ve scored some awesome shipping deal and you’re passing the savings onto us, cool. But I hope you’re not chiseling yourself. Your client base – I’m rudely speaking for everyone – isn’t wired that way. ‘Nuff said.
Thanks Dave. This will (I hope) encourage customers to group their purchases. This saves us on picking fees, boxes, dunnage and postage. In the end, our model shows it should help both LAP and the customers.
Fingers crossed.
I agree with Dave on this. LAP is a niche publisher. So as long as shipping costs do not become exorbitant, I don’t think very many serious woodworkers will walk away because of shipping costs. That being said, I am more likely to delay a purchase than to permanently deny myself the edification of purchasing LAP books. Please continue to do what you do like no one else!
When will Crucible bull whips be available?
As a data point, I literally just added two extra books to my order the other day to hit $100 when I saw the free shipping message. It’s working!
it’ll work for me. I’ve always grouped my purchases to save a little in shipping. in the past, i saved about $5 per book on shipping buying a bunch vs buying them one at a time.
This will be nice, since I usually already try to gang purchases anyway.
The major savings in shipping for me actually seemed to be regular USPS vs. Priority.
Regular USPS seems to ship just as quickly as Priority, and can $20 or so per purchase.
Maybe it’s different around the holidays, or in different parts of the country.
I live in Eastern PA and Priority shipping seems pointless.
“Dido” what Dave said.
Thank you Chris and LAP. A Very generous offer. .
Cheers.
I forgot how much I liked the look of the Monticello bookcase. Thanks for the subtle reminder I should build one 😃
First – LAP rocks!
Second – I second what Mr. Kohler says about the Monticello bookcase. I had been planning to start a build of the Meganmonster (bibliophile) bookcase this fall but looking at this head-on shot of the Monticello bookcase… I dunno. (The right answer is build both of them, but now the question is in what order.)
Build both, of course! The only dovetails in mine are on the two drawers, if that helps 🙂
I attempted to order items yesterday totaling $109 but could not figure how to remove shipping charges. The site did not automatically do it for me.
Upon approaching order from another direction this morning, I found the tool that was the center of my attention was again sold out.
Next time, I tell myself…
This bundling incentive will definitely make my spouse’s Christmas shopping easier when I put my list together!
Totally agree on grouping purchases and absolutely want LAP to be successful. However, given that the popular items often go out of stock quickly, it is a gamble to wait. But hey, one can usually order an extra T-shirt or two!
I assume the bullwhip is for distressing furniture, yes? Will it come with a DVD on doing it properly? With my luck, I feel the only thing I’d “distress” is myself.
