Crucible Holdfasts – made from ductile iron in a century-old Illinois family foundry – are now back in stock. These beefy, 1″-diameter holdfasts are based on an old French design salvaged from a barn. They work consistently in benches from 2″ to 8″ thick for three reasons: a tight fit between the shaft and hole, a rough surface finish and the fact that its shaft isn’t tapered. And because of these qualities, it also will clamp objects as much as 8″ off the benchtop.
And in case you missed it, another tool that’s been long-awaited is also now available – the Crucible Card Scraper.

Do you think the godrilla will be in the store soon?
Yes.

I think I fixed that – but I did screw it up originally…so if you clicked through from your email…mea culpa
That’s from your email page.
Love these holdfasts, a pleasure every time I whack em
I don’t know if you care, but ‘Running Wild with Bear Grills:The Challenge’ has an episode with Natalie Portman, were they appear to by using one of the Crucible hammers, although the wrapped the handle with cord.
For a long time I’ve been very curious of the holdfast in the Ruobo drawing – it clearly shows a rather large hole, far from a tight fit, and also the shaft is tapered downwards. One would think Ruobo got this sorted out, but here and in all(?) other places it says that the hole must be a tight fit, and the shafts are never ever tapered like Ruobo’s. Where Ruobo so wrong with this, or why doesn’t it work nowadays?
