June marks the 10-year anniversary of the publication of “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest,” which is the book that allowed me to release myself on my own recognizance from corporate publishing.
As promised, to mark the occasion we are doing almost nothing.
I have a blog entry planned that I promised readers five years ago. And we are releasing two products: this stunning red bandana that was cut, sewn and printed by One Feather Press. And a ballcap from Ebbets Field, which will be in the store next week.
We are making only 144 bandanas and 144 hats. There are limits to what the small manufacturers can make, and we love to order a “gross” of objects, whatever they may be. Once these bandanas and hats are gone, they will be gone forever.
The bandana mimics the one press run of the “Anarchist’s Tool Chest” that we did with a red cover five years ago. Details of the hat are forthcoming.
We are in our 13th printing of the “Anarchist’s Tool Chest” and have printed more than 35,000 copies, which would be nothing to a corporate publishing house. But it is everything to me and the people who keep Lost Art Press running: John, Megan, Meghan and Kara (and our families).

I look forward to being confused for Hester Prynne. The hats do not yet appear available to order?
They’re not yet in the store…next week!
Will they be available for international customers?
We recommend using a mail forwarding service. Each country has several and we have found them to be very reasonable. Cheaper than we could do it.
Is Fitz doing the Dance of the Seven Bandanas?
I could only afford the dance of the one bandanna.
Some things shouldn’t be rushed.
Hoping I can get on the list for a hat!!!
CORRECTION: Lost Art Press also means quite a lot to many people outside the LAP enterprise, and we are glad our support means everything to all of you, too. Good quality products coupled with valuable knowledge, research and customer service should be rewarded!
Seconded. Emphatically!
I’m also delighted that you’ve stuck with bandanas produced by One Feather Press – the quality of both fabric and print is fully up to what I’d call, well … LAP standard, and rather better than what was the case with the preceding blue one.
Cheers,
Mattias
Is the Scarlett A going to offend our pilgrim friends?
I sure hope so. Follansbee would know.
Really, Really want a hat! What a great idea!
Really, Really want a hat. What a Great Idea! Hope to get in on the order when you release them.
Thanks
At first I thought the hat had a propeller on it. Then I zoomed in and saw it was stuff in the background.
I stumbled upon this article online, posted on September 23, 2008, by a guy with a R. Groves & Sons carcase saw (his spelling). I had the exact same saw!

I bought one of those first copies of The Anarchist’s Tool Chest, it has a yellow cover and it’s autographed. Around the same time I found Graham Blackburn’s Traditional Woodworking Tools. These two books completely changed how I wanted to work wood. I built my chest in 2012. It’s a moose, 42″ wide out of 1″ cypress and probably the most enjoyable build I’ve ever done.
So – I bought a bandana. Congratulations on the tenth anniversary and thanks!
Right, so now I have to wake up Sunday morning and hit refresh every two minutes for a week, potentially. No problem.
I,m proud of you everything you and other people
I love to see the scorp peeking above the cap. Or are those teeny handlebars?
An excellent book apart from the section on the lid .I have built four tool chests (to transport my gear from Oz to the U.K.) , and I’m still not sure how you fitted YOUR lid panel into YOUR lid frame
Good thing you’re not doing 288 – that would be too gross!
The highlight of my youth was burning through a “gross” of bottle rockets on the 4th of July. Your post reminded me of that,
I find your blog very entertaining and informative. Under your direction i made my current workbench at Kelly Mehler’s class 10 years ago. You signed the oversized desk and i recall the experience with great fondness.
Is there perhaps anyone who might’ve ordered an extra red bandana, who would be willing to trade it for one of the blue or green Lost Art Press bandanas? I’ve been collecting each colored bandana to have made into a quilt, inspired by Megan’s bandana pillow. I missed these red bandanas though, while out of town with family for Easter weekend. I ordered an extra green and blue one to trade in case this ever happened, and I’d be beyond grateful if anyone could help me out with this.

Man the hat is already sold out 😔 Would of loved one.
If by any chance someone has an extra hat, I’d be interested in buying it! Thanks 😊
