Earlier I joked that it would take a space squid invasion to again delay shipment of “The Woodworker’s Pocket Book.”
Looks like I better start brushing up on my cephalopod language skills.
The bad news: Shortages of cotton cloth for the cover made us change course in the manufacturing process three times. We were finally able to get a good supply of a new brand of cotton cloth shipped to the printing plant. And, after delay because of Southern snowfall, the books are now being packed up in Tennessee to travel to our Indiana warehouse.
The good news: The book is gorgeous. We were able to get a couple of advance copies today to check some specs. I think you will love it when you receive it. The original book used graph paper for the book’s endsheets, which we reproduced. And we were even able to squeeze in some cute contrasting headbands on the book’s spine.
We also used stochastic printing to sharpen up the printing, plus a super-white paper to make the text easier to read. This was a stupid amount of work for a $13 book, but “stupid amount of work” was my nickname in high school.
Thank you for your patience. It won’t be long now.

I for one, welcome our new Squid overlords!
The care you put into your books is unbelievable and appreciated. Can’t wait to get this in hand.
Nice work!!!
Thank you for all your work to make quality products!
But do space squid cut pins or tails first? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Simultaneously
Sounds like space squids are using a circa 1980 Craftsman dovetail jig. This makes me believe they can be defeated.
Mmmm…..Calamari.
A pleasing work of art in the best sense of the phrase.
I’m giddy with anticipation.
Chris, I do not know how you get a book that great for only $13 Your a master negotiator.
Love to have some of your publications accessible in England
Classic Hand Tools in the UK carries our full line, including this book.

Most good things are worth waiting for.
Will it be available at Dictum.de soon?
Kind regards from Cologne/Germany!
I don’t know if Dictum will be carrying it, but Classic Hand Tools in the UK will:

And Rubank in Sweden might carry it.

Whatever it takes, worth the wait
Looks like a really swell book is on the way!
I question most things, but I have never had the least doubt that your books will exceed expectations. Thanks for that.
Thanks for the work. I think it will be well worth the effort and am looking forward to seeing it. Recently, I’ve been rereading the Woodworker volumes and again appreciate Hayward and LAP’s commitment to reproducing his work.
As a third generation printer and (woodworker) I appreciate all your efforts to continue to publish beautifully written and crafted books.
get marshmallows they apparently they like marshmallows!

Take all the time you need…..just keep the entertaining snarky commentary coming!
Waiting patiently, if previous books I have purchased from you are any indication it will be well worth the wait!
Don’t blame me… I voted for Kodos.
Nerdy scientist type here, who well knows what “stochastic” means, but my knowledge of printing is back there with Gutenberg, so I had to look up “stochastic printing”. It’s not unlike what squid do with their chromatophores when they are pattern matching their background or communicating their emotions. We can hope they will be kinder to us than we have been to them.
Worth the wait, as always.
You could have easily added $5.00 to the price. $18.00 looks a lot like $13.00 and anything below $20 is a steal.
But this will be a valuable tool for all woodworkers, so good on LAP
I am struck every time I pick up a Lost Art Press book by the quality of it. I’ve been re-reading By Hand and Eye as well as Mouldings in Practice, and these are just wonderful books to have in hand. They feel like they will last forever. I’d be happy just to get the terrific content they contain, but there’s a luxury to reading a book produced with so much care.
Lie=Nielsen vs Harbor Freight or LAP vs all others. Easy choice for me. Damn, I should have ordered two Pocket books.
“Stochastic printing” initially evoked fantasies of monkeys on typewriters, which seemed a little off-brand for LAP
The proof is in the detail. Thank You!! Appreciate you going the extra mile.
Looking forward to receiving this book. Looks awesome. I’m wondering if I could add another title to my standing order?
I ordered it for myself and a fFather’s day gift for my dad. Unless the squids gain momentum, I should still be ok.
The book looks great, Christopher. Not sure whom is handling your binding, but you might inquire about swatches of Roxite grade B cloth. Typically has wide availability, and a very traditional look. Takes stamping very well. Looking forward to the release.
Working my way through the Jointer and Cabinet Maker for the 2nd time. Thoroughly enjoying it this time around as much as the first! Can’t wait for this one to arrive!
Looks like the squids have lost. I received shipment notification!
Thank you
