My youngest daughter, Katherine, is home from college and has cooked up a batch of soft wax in the workshop. It is now for sale in her etsy store and sells for $24 for 8 ounces in a glass jar with a metal lid.
Soft wax is a high-solvent wax that is great for finishing the interiors of casework. It is also nice on tool handles and helps restore the glow of antique pieces. We use it on our lump hammers and other metal tools to help prevent rust.
Katherine cooks it up using a waterless process in our workshop, fills the jars and ships it out herself. Note that the finish uses turpentine.
As you can see, Bean the three-legged shop cat is excited about the new batch of wax. Or he is sitting on a bumblebee. Hard to tell.
