Lee Valley Tools now offers the deluxe version of “To Make as Perfectly as Possible” at a special price ($329 CND) for Canadian customers.
You have Robin Lee of Lee Valley to thank for this. He reached out to us and made a special order of these books in an effort to get them in the hands of woodworkers who would appreciate them.
So if you’re in Canada, this is a great way to get this book shipped to you.
Details on the Lee Valley website.

Chris,
For my own part it makes no difference, given that the copy I ordered through MyUS arrived safely yesterday (and oh! what a beaut!), but I’d already noticed the other day, while browsing the Lee Valley site for other (unnefarious) purposes, that (a) they had it in stock, but (b) that it is only available on the Canadian version of the site, not on the international one.
Just to be sure, I logged in to the site, and started the process of putting in an order, but was told during the process that this particular item was not available for shiopping to my location, i.e. Belgium.
Agaian, it makes no difference to me, but to avoid disappointed punters you might want to either see with Lee Valley if they’re prepared to ship outside Canada, or modify the blog post to say that, alas, it is Canada only?!
Apologies for telling you your business – ’tis none o’ mine! – but I thought you might want to know …
Cheers,
Mattias
My mistake! Will change it now.
Just an additional thought.
Of course I don’t know if it’d work, but if one were in equal measure outside of North America and desperate to buy the book without recourse to a forwarding service, one could always get in touch directly with Lee Valley to see if they could be persuaded to ship the book internationally after all?!
I mean, as far as I know, they do ship stuff overseas, a fair amount of which must be just as bulky and heavy as this book …
Cheers,
Mattias
I’ve tried convincing them to change this greedy policy of charging in US dollars to international customers but they won’t budge.
This makes them greedy? Seriously?
Ok I’ll re word it then, an opportunity to make more money using a stronger currency.
Lee Valley refuses to sell in CDN dollars to international customers.
This is more likely to be a limitation of the international banking system that makes it more difficult to settle transations in anything other than US dollars, than greed on the part of the Lee Valley team, who are (in my experience) incredibly fair to their customers and suppliers.
I don’t believe that for a second. They can simply trade in CDN dollars only if they so wish without they’re being any international limitation on any banking system. Open up a store online and you have the option to choose in what currency you wish to trade. As for being fair I’m not sure to what you’re referring too. They do offer friendly customer service I won’t deny that, but that is separate to what the topic is.
Perhaps an opportunity for you to vote with your money elsewhere… or start a retailer yourself. However, I cannot be happier with LVT. Quality folks selling quality products. Service second to none. Beyond any typical expectations… and most atypical.
Good timing just before the holidays. They should sell quickly with their free delivery right now.
I took advantage of this special offer and received my copy yesterday. It’s a beautiful work and I appreciate both Lost Art Press and Lee Valley Tools for the opportunity to acquire something I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.
Btw there is no doubt you live up to your good name. Your books are of the highest quality I have had the pleasure of reading. I’m sure you will find no competition because no one would dare to challenge themselves to work to higher standards due to their love for wealth, oops I mean due to maximising their profit margins. Well done Chris and your team. I expected nothing less of you.
I just happened to notice during a visit for other purposes to the Lee Valley website that it seems they now have the Deluxe Roubo On Furniture available also for customers outside Canada. At least it is priced in USD and can be added to one’s shopping basket on the international version of their site.
I furthermore came to notice in a very similar manner that the book is now also carried by Rubank Verktygs AB in Sweden, so for anyone in Europe who are still looking for a way to order a copy, that’d most likely come in less expensive than getting it from Canada, given that the latter would involve transatlantic shipping costs plus import duties and VAT.
Just thought I’d mention it in case it would of help to someone.
Mattias
Yup. Been meaning to blog about this but have been too busy. Thanks for mentioning it!
