We’ll have our Lost Art Press storefront open this Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lots of interesting stuff going on all day. Here’s the short list.
- I’ll be finishing up a pair of staked chairs from “The Anarchist’s Design Book.” I assembled one chair today and will finish that with soap finish. I’ll assemble the second chair on Saturday with hide glue and wedges.
- My daughter Katy will be selling her soft wax in 4 oz. tins. We have wax there so you can try it out on planed wood.
- We’ll have a fair number of damaged and blemished Lost Art Press books at a significant discount. These blemished books are sold for cash only.
- Free “Disobey Me” stickers.
- Store-only red T-shirts from “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest.” These are American Apparel shirts printed locally in Fort Wright, Ky., and we carry size small to 2XL.
- Our full line of Lost Art Press books.
The storefront is at 837 Willard St. in Covington, KY 41011.
Note that a lot of the above items are exclusive to our storefront only. The quantities are too small or odd to allow us to put them in the online store. So stop by and say hello.

P.S. If you are looking for other fun things to do in the city this weekend, check out this calendar of events.
Will you be selling the softwax in the LAP online store or is this a LAP storefront exclusive?
Next week I’ll be opening a store for Katy’s soft wax through etsy.
Thanks for the heads up.
Christopher
Is there a chance you to broadcast live stream the finishing of the chair?
Thanks
I’m afraid we don’t have the equipment, people or even an internet connection at our storefront.
Chris, what is the fixture to the right of the leg vise? The piece with the hole in it that seems to be attached to the bottom surface of the bench.
if you look to the left you can see another one. so I am guessing it’s for a moxon vise. just remove the face vise..
Looks to me like it may be a repurposed Holtzapffel workbench.
ok I can go for that. but it’s still a two screw vise.
Yup. That is the Holtzapffel bench I built in 2007. I have a leg vise on it now. But the twin screw can be swapped in.
I have this bench in my home shop now because we’ve moved my two other benches to the storefront.
Any chance the Disobey stickers will make it to the online store? Wants one very badly.
We are trying. The problem is that it costs a lot of money for us to have the warehouse fulfill these as a product. We can’t justify (in our minds) charging $5 to $6 for a few stickers.
Perhaps “free with purchase”? 🙂

We still have to pay the warehouse to put them in the box.
So that’s a quick way to lose $3 on every order….
Wish I could attend.
Have fun & congratulations on the whole magilla.
70 years?…1946. Let’s see….
‘Animal farm’, ‘All the Kings men’, ‘Thomas the tank engine’, ‘Zorba the Greek’, ‘the iceman cometh’, and ‘I spit on your graves’.
I can’t wait to see where you are going….
Agatha Cristy wrote ‘the ‘Hollow’. Maybe you’ll add the Round.
Has Katy tried making a harder wax with up to 30% carnauba wax added to the beeswax? Particularly good for drawer runners and table tops.
We have. It creates a wax that works identically to paste wax for floors.
Thanks to Chris for opening up the storefront today. My wife and I learned much. Seeing the staked chair from The Anarchist’s Design Book in person has changed our minds about building two of them. I didn’t think we were ready to build them, but after looking at the chair and speaking with Chris we’ve decided this is well within our capability.
Some things must must be seen in person and felt in order to appreciate. The stacked chair, soft wax and soap finished furniture are among them.
