We haven’t forgotten about “The Woodworker: The Charles H. Hayward Years” book – it’s just so massive that everything takes a long time to do. I think we are in our seventh year of working on this book now.
As penance, I offer up this awesome drawing from Hayward on making grooves.

P.S. This is just a quick scan of the paper proof. Our real scans are much crisper.
Just out of curiosity…. When scanning the source material, do you need to remove it from the binding to get a good, flat scan? Just wondering if there is a small element of destruction necessary to enable this new creation?
Yes. We disassembled 30 years of Woodworker annuals for flat scanning.
A noble cause, thank you.
Chris, have you encountered Richard Bitmead’s Cabinet-Maker’s Guide?
Cheers,
Burbidge.
I know of it. It doesn’t turn up much in the United States (the going price is $150 or so last I checked).
An inexpensive paperback was printed recently, but I haven’t had the heart to buy it….
If this is an indicator of the type of instruction found in “The Woodworker…”, we are in for a real treat one day.
Solid gold!
Pictures! The more the better, I always say.
I just wrote a nice post about Mr. Hayaward. I was logged in using my Word Press account. I posted and got the error message I need to be logged in. Not the first time. Now, I’ll be gone!
We will remember you until the cookie expires!
Just to be clear, I’m poking fun at the problem, not you individually.
That’s why it is a beta – but it is totally maddening to compose and lose a post – feeling your pain.
We’re working hard on that issue – we hate having to login every dang time, too.
The fact that I learned two useful tips from one picture of what will likely be an epic tome of a book means there are likely to be many more. I don’t want to assume, but this makes me incredibly excited. Sounds like it will be very much worth the wait.
Chris, I’m writing this to give you and John some extra info to help debug the login problem. This happens to me everytime I post on this site. I hit the post button. Get a message that says I must be logged in to comment. ( I logout every night). Hit the WordPress icon. Log in and it takes me back to the LAP site with the message below the comment box stating “Toolnut: You are commenting using my WordPress account. (Log Out / Change)”. Hit post and get the message that I must be logged in to comment at which point I must re-enter the http address for the blog, (just refreshing doesn’t work) select the post I wish to comment on. Re enter the text (I’ve gotten into the habit of selecting all of the text and copying it so all I have to do is paste it) hit post and everything works fine. FYI in terms of debugging, if I log into another WordPress site (Megan’s) it works fine and if I log into hers first and then come here I don’t have any problems posting. It’s just the first time I try to comment here. This happened a while back and then it worked fine and now has been happening for quite a while.
