This evening, Christopher sat on his couch, I sat on his floor (so as to better commune with the cats), and we scrutinized the printer proofs of “Calvin Cobb: Radio Woodworker!”
Chris uploaded the handful of corrections just minutes ago, and it’s now officially out of our control and will soon be on press.
Most exciting for me was seeing the dust jacket in 3D. Yeah, I knew what it looked like, wrote the flap copy for it and have read over it – carefully – numerous times. But that’s not the same as seeing it printed, cut and folded into the shape of a book.
Now, there’s nothing left to do but wait (about 5-6 weeks).
I hate waiting.

The only thing that slowed down the proofing process was I kept reading the book. And laughing. “Your face looks as long as a tapeworm’s suspenders.’
I’ve read the book 2.2 times now and can’t wait to have it in my hot hands.
I’ve read it approximately 10 times…and it’s still funny!
Hello, as an avid subscriber of LAP i have read w/ mucho interest in this project . cant wait for the book but even more i’m looking forward to my order for poster if the cover !!!! even a poster of the last few drafts u showed us..ya know xmas is just around the corner & my workshop would then be complete.

Hell yes, a poster!
And not some wimpy 11×14 folio, verso/recto dust cover. I want the whole movie theater, “Coming Attractions”, whole page elephant, thank you very much.
Tom
Also, a full sized cardboard movie theater display of Roy and the characters. (Coming to an Imax theater near you!)
And a life-size blow-up doll.
Of the chick on the bike? Sure, why not!
Can’t wait! Now I must find new suspenders.
The Old Post Office, Washington DC! Are there more nostalgic pics of my hometown?
Why yes there are!
Congrats to all! Looks great. Fitz perhaps modeled for the dust jacket cover as well…
I wish. Susan Sarandon was the starting point.
Oh, that’s bad.You are a much more motorcycle type of gal.
I thought Fitz as well.
Very cool Guys. Well done.

Comparing the original cover (with the sidecar) and the final one, it’s amazing to me how much difference the proper pistol grip on the saw makes for the image. Pity that couldn’t be fixed.
And btw, how many measured drawings are there? Do they include plans for a manure spreader?
Not sure what you are referring to here when you say “fixed.” Do you mean Roy’s old drawing? Or the new one? Because in the new cover there is a proper saw grip.
Upon squinting at it, I stand corrected. But he’s bending his wrist, which I don’t see you do when you’re sawing. Maybe the wind is taking it from Calvin’s grip, but it bothers me visually.
That’s it. Time for bourbon. For me, not you.
Most importantly, when the book’s ready, y’all need to have a publicity stunt. Roy and Everyone’s Favorite Redhead need to hop on a motorcycle and go careering up and down Pennsylvania Avenue, waving Disston D-20s. You’d need a (Capitol? DC?) police officer to provide chase to fill in the cover image, but no worries–the FBI building is only a block away from the Old Post Office. Lead them to PBS headquarters before giving yourselves up.
Now how and when can we order it… and what will it cost?
