In the coming week we’ll post the free SketchUp drawing for the knockdown Nicholson workbench I built earlier this month. But if you need an inexpensive and portable workbench, this one is for sale for $400, cash and carry. Sorry, sold.
I built the bench to prove the design concept, and also we needed a fourth workbench for my coffin-building event this weekend.
I didn’t expect the knockdown bench to be this good – I thought I’d have to tinker with it before I was happy. But this thing is solid and ready to go. No apologies.
The bench is made from Southern yellow pine and weighs about 250 pounds. The top is 22” x 72” and the benchtop is 33” from the floor. The entire bench can be assembled and disassembled with a 9/16” ratchet in less than 10 minutes.
If you are interested in the bench, let me know at chris@lostartpress.com. The first one to say “I’ll take it” and comes to pick it up gets it. Sorry, I cannot ship this bench.

I’m waiting for the plans. Already have the t-bolts from McMaster-Carr, and have sourced some Southern Yellow Pine. Looking forward to building one.
I should add that my bench will be built for lefties. Sorry Mike, there are a few of us out there.
At first I thought you were going to sell.the coffins. I already told my wife to put me through a wood chopper (e.g. Fargo) and put me in the compost bin in the garden.
I will take it !
let me know the cost.
Did read it all, I want it !
It’s a great design for a knockdown bench. Just in time for me to build one for my garage. I bought some Douglas Fir, the hardware from McMaster Carr is scheduled to show up on Tuesday and now all I need is to find the time to build it. (The next several days are dedicated to teaching my grandchildren to chop mortises and cut tenons by hand. (Probably should have chosen a softer wood than oak for my grandson! My granddaughter has it a little easier…she is working with ash.) They are each building a stool. Got to get that finished before school starts on Thursday. Then…I’ll have the time to build the bench.
Hi Chris,
I was wondering when the sketch up model might be ready. Thanks!
Anthony
Not long. Look for it in the coming week.
