Burnishing definitely deserves some attention. I’ve never used a polisher, per se, but we all know about using shavings at the lathe, and lately I’ve found blocks and dowels of wood can burnish up curved and flat surfaces very nicely. I’m guess that in the days before sandpaper, burnishing was a mainstay.
