I don’t use this blog to flog you with commerce, but this is a link worth checking out today.
ShopWoodworking.com has put a bunch of good titles (and one birdhouse book) on sale for 50 percent off. Except for the birdhouse book, this is all good stuff – including a bunch of my DVDs.
This sale ends today, April 10.
This is a good time to pick up some titles for your permanent library:
“Furniture in the Southern Style” by Robert W. Lang and Glen D. Huey. If you like American furniture, this is a landmark.
“The Foundations of Better Woodworking” by Jeff Miller. A fantastic book that approaches skill development like a musician.
“The Perfect Edge” by Ron Hock. I own two copies. One for the shop; one for the library.

ACK! Curse you Christopher Schwarz! I already have a stack of to-read books next to my bed. (*bangs-head-against-wall
Just say no.

Dang, who am I kidding…
And of course I have to go look at the link. This sort of think and AbeBooks will be the death of me. Probably when the pile collapses on top of me and they need a cadaver dog to locate my corpse.
Nice! Thanks! I’ve had my eye on that bird house book for a while. Finally pulled the trigger.
I have had that book for some time now, and I keep pulling it out and drooling on the pics! One of the sideboards has my name all over it. Next project! Going to be a challenge for my skill level!
Hey’s playing down the bird house book to build traction for his upcoming release, “The Anarchist Avian Domicile”
Busted.
Well I’m glad that’s cleared up. I was going to accuse him of being an Avianist and send him all sorts of liturature on how birds are people too.
I wish Shop Woodworking could ship an international order without a problem. Both the orders I placed have had problems. I never got my Saw Value Pack because they did nothing other than take the money for it – I’m still waiting for the refund. I’ve lost all confidence in them, which is more than frustrating because there is nowhere else to get a lot of the items they sell here in the UK.
George,
If you’ll send me this same email at Megan.fitzpatrick@fwmedia.com, I’ll make sure it gets cleared up.
All this talk of birdhouses reminds me of the old proverb, “A bird in the hand will poop there.”. Words to live by.
The main problem I have with all these sales is that I already have the books. Now if they would just offer all the books that they haven’t published yet at 50% off, then they might have a winner. 🙂 Living in Australia my main problem with international shippers is that they seem to think Australia is in Europe, so Austria must be in the Pacific……..There is an infamous T-Shirt being sold in Austria with the slogan ‘No Kangaroos here’. The boxes of books that come through from Sweden must be a terrible disappointment to the customs officers since they are on archeology, history & woodworking and not ‘naughty bits’.
Thanks for the tip! I indulged!
I have to wonder how much posts like these move the sawdust market. In the past, you’ve mentioned vintage 13pc auger bit sets for cheap money and now I regularly see them going for well over 100.00 now on eBay.
I hope you are getting a kickback..
If you have read my blog for long enough, then you know that I don’t get a kickback. When I recommend something, I mean it. When I trash something, I mean it.
Sarcasm intended of course!
It says a lot though about how much your opinion is trusted by a fair amount of people. I inherited my auger bits from my Dad (old Irwin set) and you’re totally right, it is an awesome set of bits.
Sorry. After so many years of being accused of being a tool when I recommend tools, my sarcasm detector is flaccid.
