You can now watch “The Woodwright’s Shop” episode on “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest” for free using this link.
This episode was great fun to shoot, except for the 20 times I was smashed into my own tool chest with my head jammed in a dark place it didn’t want to go – a place that the haters say my head has never left.
As always when shooting “The Woodwright’s Shop,” guests are beat with a foam noodle by Roy Underhill, you throw up a little in your mouth during the filming and you will eat Bojangle’s fried chicken during the lunch break.
So on balance, a good time.

P.S. As always, thanks to Roy Underhill for inviting me on his show. I still cannot believe it really happened.
Chris
He is my all time favorite … Indeed you are fortunate to get on his show but it is because he see’s some of same attributes in you…so keep doing what you do…enjoy your blog
Merci bien!
Mmm…Bojangles…
I’ve tried to watch it a several times over the last few days but the sound is always WAY out of sync. Every episode posted since 09/01/12 is borked in the same way. I’ve asked around and others are having trouble with it as well. I dropped an email to PBS but the auto reply just blamed it on me being in Canada. Maybe Roy could bug them? I’m really looking forward to watching this whole recent batch of videos.
I’ve got the same issue here in the US on U-verse using both Chrome, Firefox, and even on my N7 tablet. I ended up just more listening than watching. Still nice to see…I mean hear.
Same problem in Seattle Paul. I’ve filled in the PBS fault form, so we’ll see what happens. Look forward to the show when it’s fixed.
where do you find the “fault form”, I’d like to submit one too.
I tried several times last night and had the same problem. There seems to be some kind of problem with almost every video I try to watch. Whether it’s out of sync audio, video that seems to “catch” every few seconds or whatever. They really need to do a better job with these.
Unwatchable due to sound sync. Tried Firefox, chrome and explorer.
It seems like they sync’ed the sound and THEN tacked on the State Farm commercial. I should probably complain to my State Farm rep – that might get it fixed sooner…
I have the same problem with the video, the sound for Roy talking starts when you pop out of the chest. And I’m not in Canada.
Roy was awesome at WIA in Pasadena. My 12 year old was with me and introduced himself to Roy, who talked with him, gave him the parts from his “old time sash” demo and had him read an obnoxious pun at the Moxionian dinner. We’re going to make a sash together, but have another project lined up for this weekend.
I’m in Chicago and have the same problem with sound/video sync.
I sort of solved the sound sync problem by running it on my iPad with the sound way up, and playing it on my laptop with the sound off about 3 minutes different. It worked well enough, but was pretty annoying. Looks like all the episodes up there are messed up, at least the others I sampled.
Great episode though, I’m really looking forward to taking this class next year in Port Townsend.
Genius! Thanks for the idea!
same problem here. And it’s super-pixellated, on and off.
here is a problem with all the new Woodwright shop vidoes starting in September. I also sent an email to PBS, last week. No response from them. The Boston PBS station hasn’t run the new episodes yet, they are still in reruns. I;m not sure when the new season will start here, hopefully soon!
I filed a bug on it earlier this week, and they said they have flagged them to get fixed.
Hopefully it happens soon!

Same problems cited above, on two different computers and ipad. Bummer, someone please post a link to the fault form.
Thanks
I went to the “Contact” page on the http://www.pbs.org site and selected the “Viewer Services” contact (it best seemed to fit our issue) and completed the contact form:

I caught it for the first time just the other day actually. Towards the end of the episode there was a point when Roy was asking for specific tools from the chest and then placing them in a drawer. My daughter called me so I missed how it was resolved. I just figured that Roy was swiping them.
I especially liked the “snob” comment when Roy pulls out the Spofford. haha
I caught the show on our local PBS station. Great job, really enjoyed the show!
I have to say the episode was thoroughly entertaining.
I’m glad I caught it on local PBS after hearing all of the problem reports.
Greetings Christopher,
The PBS video linked in this post shows a video which has a regular 1 second burst of pixelation every few seconds along with the audio being out of sync with the video by a minute or two. Almost impossible to watch. I have no idea how to notify PBS, and I realize you are not technically responsible for PBS web video, but I thought you might care and know the proper contact at PBS to get this fixed.
Speaking of Anarchist chests, I’m curious as to how has the smaller traveling version worked out and would you do anything different?
It’s great for traveling. The steel banding is doing its job. The sawtill on the lid was a bit of a pain until I used a shoestring to tie the totes of the two saws together while the chest is in motion.
I also really like the tool rack on the front wall of the chest.
All in all, I’m very happy.
Yikes, shame about the audio sync.
I worked around it, sort of, by playing the episode simultaneously in two browser windows/tabs, one with sound muted but for watching the other with the sound on but hidden from view – and then getting the two synced close enough.
