We have just received a new load of “Handplane Essentials” from the second printing of this book, which I wrote in 2009. All the backorders for this book have been filled – so if you were on that list, your book will go out in Tuesday’s mail.
Thanks for your patience.

Just got mine from FW Press (it was delayed too). Great book Chris.
i have read that book ! It is an excellent souce to go with the Coarse, Medium and Fine dvd that Schwarz did. I was just watching Exercises in Woodworking when i noticed this e-mail coming through. oh and before watching Exercises in Woodworking i was watching the handplane dvd also by Schwarz. Yesterday i was watching his dvd on sawing and how to sharpen the saws. My handtool collection is growing – the three saws i have but no panel saw yet. The dvd’s have been an excellent teaching aid. There is nothing like actually seeing the roubo bench being put together. Oh yes i have the book on the workbench and the dvd on the builing of this bench. Oh I forgot I have the sawbench dvd and now over the past weekend i went out to buy the wood for that project. The router plane i can’t wait to try out with this project. oh yes and the block plane can be used in that project. The dvd on the sawbench is superb. A weekend project for one to do up. What am i going to do with my 8″ jointer when i save up the last 200 $ to purchase the big mama -the jointer plane no. 7. But i digress if someone out there wants a good book to read as a book and an instructional manuel you can’t go wrong with this Handtool Essential book. Now i wonder when Schwarz is going to make a dvd on the dovetail. I have watched the Cosman classic but i await Schwarz….. someone convince him. Now to return to exercise 2 on the dvd Exercises in Woodworking. IT is -11 here with a windchill of -20 so i am not in the little workshop i have.
It’s still showing for £107 on Amazon.co.uk. Any idea when it might get into the Amazon channel or is it not destined for there any more? Where would be the best place to buy a copy for a UK resident?
Hey Chris,
I ordered my copy yesterday and I am eagerly awaiting delivery. One question I do have is, does this second edition have an index? I read (PW Blog Nov 09, 2009) the first edition does not have an index and someone created one and sent you a copy.
Thanks,
Aaron
