1. Every man knows something that I do not know.
2. Every thing, living or inanimate, has something to tell me that I do not know.
3. It is better to ask questions of things than of men; but it is better to ask of men than not to ask at all.
— “Asking Questions” from The Manufacturer and Builder, 1870
In a world where schools tell students that “there’s no such thing as a bad question,” I like to ask, “Have you stopped beating your spouse yet?”
The binary world can’t handle the truth.
A Drill Instructor once told the platoon to ask any and all questions. He said he might call us stupid, but he would still answer it. There are stupid questions, but everyone is allowed ignorance, especially when they are trying to cure it.
I really like the quotation….
I learned this early in life and have profited greatly. I believe it to be one of the most important lessons.
Love the quote and the spirit of constant discovery – so in that spirit, what are ya makin’?
I have always felt if you don’t ask how are you going to learn. Thanks for the quote.
