The good news: The U.S. Postal Service is delivering copies of “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest” at a quick clip. We dropped the first load into the mailstream on Saturday afternoon and already we are hearing from people who have received it.
That is remarkable considering we sent the book via Media Mail and that Monday was a holiday. I guess John Hoffman’s flirting with the postal workers on the dock really paid off (and yes, Pat, I can get you John’s number).
Today I dropped off two more huge loads of books – all my car could carry – and we are almost caught up on sending out all the pre-orders. The only thing stopping us is that we have depleted the local supply of boxes that fit our book.
Other news:
• I’ll be getting estimates of the costs for our leather-bound version of “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest” tomorrow. If you are on the list, you will hear from us shortly with an update.
• I began milling the pine for the 6’ dividers we will have in our booth at Woodworking in America.
• I will find more boxes tomorrow, even if I have to go to an office products superstore and donate several pints of various bodily fluids. I’m a quart high on bile right now, anyway.

Can you post the sketchup plans for the dividers? Or set up a 3d warehouse for lost art. I like confusing the neighbors and amusing the wife and I am in the process of laying out my front garden. My freehand drawing skills are not up to snuff and tracing is a paid sketchup feature afaik.
I plan on threading a big wood screw and making a giant wing nut. Were you going to do similar or use a wood rivet to secure the arms?
Sigh. Still no Book. I know, I know, I started camping by the mailbox before you even had a chance to ship them. I’m just afraid the woman who delivers the mail is going to take out a restraining order if it doesn’t come soon.
I buy my shipping boxes from here: http://www.uline.com/
Prices are good and they get you their product quickly. You’re probably already familiar with them, but if not worth a look.
I got my copy today. Granted I’m only about an hour away from you. From what I’ve read, it’s fantastic!!! Great job!!!
Totally worth the wait I’m sure. I can’t wait to read the end of the story. 😉
Eagerly awaiting my copy!
I’ll sell you my box for 37 bux.
Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck.
(I kill me)
Thanks for keeping us posted. Maybe, just maybe I will receive my copy today…..
My copy arrived in Lincoln, NE yesterday, and I’ve already started in on it. Thankfully I was given a head start and can skip over the prologue and first chapter. 🙂
Thanks!
Got my good and started reading, love it. Thank you LAP and Chris.
If there’s a Barnes and Noble bookstore near there….check out the dumpster. Boxes will be flattened and out there. Great boxes…just the right size for a lot of things; uniform sizes. Learned this one from a “estate sale” guy when we closed up a relative’s house and needed a lot of boxes.
Got mine today and it’s a gloomy rainy afternoon (unusual for central Florida) the perfect time to scrunch into the couch and dive in!
“…Nikto” Very good! I know I’m in for a good read!
recived my book today started reading on the spot. could we see a lost art press magazine dealing with the craft?
Anything is possible. And that has been discussed at great length.
First, we have about six book to get into your hands. And we need to get caught up on orders.
When you’re ready to publish a magazine, I know a good managing editor you should consider hiring.
You know that U.S. Law prohibits hiring cats.
As I looked out the livingroom window this morning, there was my copy sitting atop the mailbox just waiting for me to get it. But I was stuck in the house not able to walk the short distance to the box. No I wasn’t under house arrest, not this time, I have some health issues that kept me in. So I had to 6 agonizing hours until my son came with the book and the rest of the mail. Now I feel much better!
Six more books? That’s great news Chris.
Michael
Received mine on May 31. Been reading and savoring it in slow bits – like a fine meal – no need to rush through it.
well keep the books coming I have read all the others, very helpful in my work.
I got mine today!!!!
I am on which to do tomorrow – go to work or read 🙂
Only 6 books????? I was hoping for 5 feet of books
Instead of a true magazine how about a serial book?????
With plans for a wooden binder 🙂
I got mine today. I was pleasantly surprised to see it signed. Cool. Congrats on the life change. Now can you revive Woodworking magazine so we have something to make with our hand tools?
Greetings from Qalat City Afghanistan,
My book has arrived!!!
Halfway around the world away from me…
I’m making my wife read it to me over the phone. AT+T is going to love me this week. I am looking forward to reading it when I get home for R&R in September. I know it will be the number 1 topic on lots of blogs!
Best regards,

My book arrived the day I left for a business trip to Boston, So I had a miserable week waiting to get home to start reading it. I had hoped that it would arrive just as I was leaving for the airport so I could take it with me. What a great book, thanks Chris. I have dogeared many pages and underlined many more. This is a book that will be a reference for years.
The mule train finally reached the end of the Oregon Trail with my copy today.
Still waiting here in Greater Cambridge (Massachusetts). I pre-ordered just under the wire, so it makes sense that I’ll get mine late.
But I brought home a box of tools yesterday. Freecycle is wonderful … I now have 3 more braces (one works, the other two might), a slew of Jennings bits including an expansive bit, a corrugated sole Stanley #3, and a Craftsman dovetail saw. Oh well, they can’t all be priceless antiques.
Chris, I’m in upstate NY…got email from John on Saturday…the book arrived on Monday the 30th!!!!
It’s a paradigm shift…compelling…scary…historical on multiple levels…
Thanks…I think…
Best always, Another hopeful craftsman.
Oh crap! Yes it was the first mail day after the weekend (I thought so…), but it was a really long weekend…school was out on Friday too!
So, the book came Tuesday the 31st!
When should i start to worry about not receiving mine?
John,
Send us your order number and we will track it down.
Send it to john@lostartpress.com
The book showed on Saturday. Only time for a quick look. Did want to say how much I appreciate the selection of font, line spacing and paper color/quality. They all combine to make a very readable book for Old eyes (even with a flash light – under the covers).
Thanks Don
